Journey So Far
Since our first step in 2000, till today - we continue to move forward with our belief that communities can change and develop only when children are empowered by education that is relevant to their own reality.
Year 2000 - 2005
Like-minded people together form “DISHA”. With 12 economically weaker children, a few books, some stationary, and a mid-day meal programme, a playschool was started.
Basic social principle that all children should have quality education irrespective of their social status.
In 2005, DISHA was registered as an NGO under the name of Nai Disha Educational and Cultural Society, a center for imparting primary education to marginalized children. Numbers grew from 12 to 80.
Vision Clarity - Identify and connect with the child and work on his specific needs.
Year 2005 - 2010
First health camp for our children and the community.
Association with Iskcon Temple for Mid- day meal.
Joined hands with Caring Hands for Children.
Mr. Bhandari came forth and started our first scholarship for deserving students.
Association with NIOS Partner, Butterflies and Akshay Prastishthan.
Showcased our first in house theatre production, Play Mira, at Habitat centre.
Empaneled with (UEE) Universal Elementary Education under their project “Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA)” and moved to MCD Kishangarh school in the midst of the community. Focus was on mainstreaming” Out of School” children to MCD and Government schools despite their learning gaps.
Remedial program started for our mainstreamed children.
“Meri Pehchhan” a vocational training program for youth started focusing on Spoken English and Basic Computer education.
Year 2010 - 2015
Art Education Therapy initiated - A medium to express inner and outer worlds.
First Batch of 10th and 12th graduated.
My Dream (MD) group created for hyper active children not academically inclined.
Developed our unique six months ‘teaching module' (Akshar, Matra, Vakya till class 6th) to fast track their learning gaps.
Empanelled with Government of India- STEP project, Ministry of Women and Child development, to train young women in stitching and tailoring.
First batch of 6 girls go to Poland for “Brave festival”, a cultural program, through Sarvam Foundation.
First outstation trip - 8 children go to Sardar Sheher , Rajasthan, through Creativity Adda.
Solar Panels installed by IBM.
Joined hands with Madam Stoltz for youth and women empowerment.
Regular Rugby classes for all run by Delhi Hurricanes Rugby Football club.
Started “Care and Share” - our mentoring and counseling program.
Year 2015 - 2020
Regular workshops to empower children and staff.
Regular excursions for varied exposures.
Weekend clubs - Theatre, Dance, Art, Pottery, Needlework, Chess, Vocal and Instrumental music.
Galti Kahan Hui: an immensely popular play performed by our theatre group.
Regular Rugby classes for all Open School children by Delhi Hurricanes Rugby Football club. Four students identified for National Level Rugby tournaments.
In-house clinical psychologist to assess and evaluate the socio, emotional and mental health of each and every child (2016).
Swacchta Project- an initiative to bring awareness to the community through our students about cleanliness in their homes and surrounding areas. Kishangarh Community Project was carried out which converted a dumping ground into a clean ground where the community comes together.
Play performance- Raja aur Gadariya.
Machines distribution to Ladies in our women empowerment program.
Tempo Traveler was purchased through CSR from Jullunder Motor Agency.
